Regional Agricultural Research Station Gives Food For Your Knowledge And Passion

Regional Agricultural Research Station is situated at a height of 974 meters above mean sea level. It is located at a distance of ten kilometer from Calicut. Tourists can enjoy a mild subtropical climate in this research station located near Ambalavayal. The Regional Agricultural Research Station covers a total area of 87.3 hectares and grows a wide diversity of crops. The crops grown here include coffee, rice, pepper, ginger, clove, turmeric, cinnamon, and fruits. The station undertakes research for mandate of solving problems related to horticultural and spice crops.

Regional Agricultural Research Station, was originated in the year 1946. It was established as a part of Wayanad Colonization Scheme. This station comes under the Madras presidency. With the formation of Kerala state in the year 1956 this station was brought under Department of Agriculture. In the year 1966, Regional Agricultural Research Station was lifted to the status of Central Horticultural Research Station. Very quickly it was reassigned to Kerala Agricultural University in the year 1972. In the year 1983 it was upgraded as Regional Agricultural Research Station. The Cardamom Research Station located in Pampadumpara was its satellite station. Krishi Vigyan Kendra of tribal farmers started operating in the station in the year 1982.
